Sarah’s Entrelac Scarf

Good evening! I am so excited to share my latest project with you all. For the past 2 weeks or so I have been working on a beautiful entrelac infinity scarf for a friend of mine. This is actually the second scarf she has ordered from me, but in my opinion this one turned out so much better than the first. I knitted this scarf using Lion brand Unique yarn which is a beautiful multicolored bulky weight yarn. My parents gifted multiple skeins of this yarn to me a few Christmases ago. I wanted to find the perfect pattern for it and this is the one! The beautiful fall colors and the entrelac pattern were just made for each other!

See what I mean? Aren’t those colors simply gorgeous!?! I have a weakness for orange and burgundy, but I’m loving that teal color too. I still have a few skeins of this yarn, so I might just have to make one for myself. 😀

For my fellow knitters or just anyone who is wondering what entrelac is or how it’s done, there are some great tutorials on youtube. This is the one I learned from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOEXPLY2EDg&t=684s. Despite how complex entrelac looks, it is really quite simple! Let me encourage you to try it even if all you know how to do is knit and purl. It’s good to challenge yourself every now and then. Guess what! You might just succeed!

Introductions and the Story of How My Knitting Journey Began

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for checking out my blog. I’d like to start by introducing myself. My name is Brianna. My husband Lars and I live in the beautiful state of Washington where rivers, trees, and mountains abound. Both of us were born and raised here, but we didn’t meet until I was 17 and he was 24. We started dating shortly after I turned 20 and were married just two months before my 21st birthday on a beautiful October day. Yes, we only dated for 9 months. Yes, I know we’re crazy. At the time of writing this, we have been happily married for 1 year and a month!

Ok, enough of that! Now I want to move on and share a little bit about my knitting story. I don’t remember exactly how old I was when I first started knitting, but I believe I was somewhere between the ages of 10 and 13. It all started with a Borders gift card. I had just had a birthday and had received a Borders gift card at a recent birthday party. If you are unfamiliar with Borders, it was a bookstore similar to Barnes and Noble which unfortunately went out of business in 2011. So I was at Borders one day, searching for the perfect book to purchase, and nothing was catching my eye. Eventually, I came across a Klutz knitting kit. It came with an instructional book, a pair of needles, a needle case, and some purple acrylic yarn. I thought to myself that it might be fun to try learning to knit. My wise mom questioned if I would actually use the kit and after some thought I decided to take the risk. Sorry mom. 😉 Spoiler: She has benefited from my risky purchase.

After many failed attempts to teach myself how to knit, I was informed by my older sister, Christina, that her best friend, Emily, was a knitter and might be willing to teach me. And so I cried out to Emily for help and she taught me how to cast on and how to do the basic knit stitch. Thank you, Emily!

Since then I have learned other stitches and techniques from google, books, and youtube. I’ve made hats, scarves, slippers, blankets, and more! Currently, I am unemployed by choice, which has given me more time and opportunity to learn and advance in my knitting skills. In this past year alone I have learned techniques such as entrelac and brioche. And I have knit my first adult size sweater!

My vision for this blog is to have a place where I can share projects I’m working on, yarn reviews, Knitting tips, techniques, and more! Perhaps someday I’ll even design my own patterns.
